Do you go to hell for being depressed, if this counts as sloth?

If sloth is a deadly sin and it includes (according to most religious sources) laziness caused by depression… does this mean if you suffer from depression and it’s simply never "cured," do you go to Hell? I know you go to Hell if you commit suicide, but what if you just try to kill yourself, self-harm, or are simply depressed your whole life? And if you DO go to Hell for this, why is God punishing you for being a sad person?

PLEASE NOTE , that anyone depressed are to be given comfort, especially those who have chronic "depress.

(1 Thessalonians 5:14-15) “. . .On the other hand, we exhort YOU, brothers, admonish the disorderly, speak consolingly to the DEPRESSED souls, support the weak, be long-suffering toward all. 15 See that no one renders injury for injury to anyone else, but always pursue what is good toward one another and to all others.”

Note the seriousness of depression:

(Philippians 2:25-26) “25 However, I consider it necessary to send to YOU E‧paph‧ro‧di′tus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, but YOUR envoy and private servant for my need, 26 since he is longing to see all of YOU and is depressed because YOU heard he had fallen sick. . .”

As far as being punished by God & the threat of the diabolical hellfire–that teaching is not from God or Christ!

Because God wants you to work make money and then give most of it to the church, then you should find a partner and make many babies to ensure future christians!!

The "7 deadly sins" are not even listed in the bible as such.

I wonder what a person with narcolepsy would do with this one if it were.

  3. That doesn’t make any sense…..wouldn’t god have made that way? I mean, depression is in no way a choice. How could a supposedly loving god condemn you for that? Then again, Christianity as a whole doesn’t really make much sense to me.

I am not lazy, but I do find myself sometimes depressed. If half of the Bible is true, and the people that commit suicide go to Hell, I couldn’t think of any other place I’d rather end up when I die.

  7. I don’t know. I don’t pay attention to God’s fan club, because most of them are too star struck for their own good. Why don’t you ask him yourself?

Depression doesn’t cause "laziness" or "sloth". Depression results in fatigue and sadness that rob you of your motivation and energy for life. You don’t choose to feel this way, nor are you shirking work so you can go enjoy something else. When you’re depressed, you don’t really enjoy ANYthing. If you believe that your god punishes people with eternal torture because they have a chemical imbalance that leaves them exhausted and profoundly sad, why would you continue to worship that god? Depression is unpleasant enough without worrying whether or not you’re going to be in agony after your death because you suffered with depression during your life. If I were you I’d focus on visiting a doctor and a therapist.

  9. If you’re depressed, it doesn’t mean you have to be lazy. If you are depressed, you can try find ways to fight against it or at least get up and go do something.

Anyways, if you go to Hell it’s because you won’t try to live by God’s laws or accept his gifts.

It’s not because you’re sad. Hey, it’s all about if you try.

God understands that we’ll fail a lot because we’re human. He still loves us. And, really, He just wants us to work to follow Him. To respect and love Him and our neighbors. Don’t have to be perfect.

  11. The ONLY way that one goes to hell is if they leave this world without having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

There is no other name…..there is no other sacrifice….. If one rejects – or just ignores – the death of Jesus on the cross — He shed His blood and paid for ALL of our sins, past, present, and future, and if one does NOT receive Him, they will go to hell…and it is NOT because God wants that to happen!!! He sent His Son to die on the cross to keep us OUT of hell, but every person has to decide for himself or herself if they want to receive Jesus and be born again.

The very fact that Jesus came here from Heaven to die on the cross – IN OUR PLACE – is the PROOF that HELL IS A VERY REAL PLACE and that God loves you so very, very much that He was willing to pay the price it took to make
salvation possible, no matter how difficult or painful. You are just that precious to Him.

God does not "send" anybody to hell — they volunteer – by refusing to come to Him through His Son and put their trust in Him alone!!
