Deadly Sin

The aim of this project was to capture the Seven Deadly Sins in an avant garde style. For centuries the sins have intrigued people, as a lesson in life and a warning of pitfalls. I wanted to put a contemporary slant on them, yet have a modern approach using the quotes and making people view the images in a different way.

Some time ago ‘America’s Next Top Model’ television programme featured a photo shoot based on the sins. I felt that the models’ facial expressions were not capturing the mood of the sins effectively and this motivated me to create my own version in a fashion orientated style.

I created a photo book for my final major project, using both image and text to explain each of the sins. I also produced images without text; these becoming self-explanatory due to the actions of the models. I then felt I could take this further by developing the images into a slideshow with music that would set the appropriate atmosphere.
