Why is gluttony one of the seven deadly sins?
Is it is bad to overeat? But what about not eating enough? And what about drug overdose and alcoholism? Isn’t that just as bad?
because no one likes a fattie, unless they are funny and can amuse people with their fat kid antics, like chris farley did.
It’s more about not being a glutton for anything (food, drugs, porn, INTERNET, w/e) it could lead to sinful actions later on. It puts you at the centre of your own life, it’s selfish. By avoiding the seven deadly sins a person can live a life filled with virtues, and not bad habits.
No — such thing. That is Catholic superstition/ tradition and isn’t even biblical. Blessings

There are no "seven deadly sins" in the Bible. So…
Eat what you want, and thank the Lord Jesus that He provides food!
And INFINITELY more important, you need to believe in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven, and you are forgiven all sins, no matter what those sins are, all sins past, present, and future, and you will be in heaven!
Jesus died on the cross for our sins, as FULL PAYMENT for ALL our sins! And then Jesus rose from the dead! Believe in JESUS for salvation, and you will be in heaven!
Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!

well there are way more than seven deadly sins (a catholic concept) but see this:
Pro 23:2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [be] a man given to appetite.
Pro 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.
Obesity is slow suicide

The gluttony refered to incluedes overindulgencein anything: food, drink, material goods. Its overconsumption in any sense, not only food. Akin to greed, gluttony (in terms of the "seven deadly") restricts people from consuming more of ANYTHING than they actually need.

Actually the early Christian Fathers taught that indulging oneself in earthly desires is denying God that attention that they should be giving Him. And I should also mention that the early Christians who were persecuted by the pagan Romans witnessed the gluttony of the Romans. The Roman nobility would indulge themselves upon food and drink, while there subjects were starving to death.
Look at it like this when a person is indulging themselves upon food and drink they are denying those who are without food and drink that is what makes it a sin. And what did Christ Jesus teach about that?
Matthew 25:34-46
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Have you heard of thou shall not steal, indulging in food or wasting food is taking away from those that need it. So your stealing from the poor.
Apart from the fact that the issue is complex and that some can barely eat anything without gaining weight, gluttony is excessive greed and this is idolatry. It must be avoided.
There are several medical conditions with attribute to the gaining of weight so that some problems cause an inherent tendency for being overweight.
As an example, I am quite fit, but need to loose a little.
By calorie counting positive and negative, food versus exercise, I have been averaging around 1200 calories per day most of the last plus 20 days. At times, due to the amount of exercise I do, my effective calories have been around 50-500 for the day.
I walk an hour a day; at times I bicycle from 15 to 25 miles per day, several times a week in fact. Despite this, I have trouble laying off weight. My wife however seems to be able to eat whatever she likes and has no weight gain and that is without any exercise.

The 7 deadly sins is made up from a few bible verse interpretations.
Gluttony being one of them embodies OVER INDULGENCE. Drinking wine is not a sin, although drunkenness is. Same with gluttony, get it?
There are one major bible verse that sums it all up. And this is for overeating, drugs, etc:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20:
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20-you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
P.S. this is the same book in the bible that teaches fitness being important to the body (not as important as spiritual fitness though).
