  • What is the difference between doctrinal sin and personal sin?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under gluttony deadly sin | 7 Comments »

What is the difference between doctrinal sin and personal sin? Where does the 7 deadly sins such as gluttony fall under?

Not sure if this is what you want… but in the Roman Catholic church there is original sin and personal sins. Original sin comes from the fall of man, basically when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, a sin was cast upon all human beings. Basically, all people are born with original sin and in order to get rid of it they must be baptized

In regards to personal sins, there are two types mortal or venial. Mortal sins are really serious sins, where the sinner is fully aware that the act or omission is both a sin and is a serious sin and does it anyway. The seven deadly sins fit in here.

Then there are Venial sins. Venial sins are the lesser sins that don’t fit in the mortal sin category.

There are no "seven deadly sins" in the Bible. Such a teaching IS a doctrinal sin.

Doctrine is all that matters. The Bible is 100% true and is the final and ONLY authority on all matters.

Catholics adhere to these ideals…A doctrinal sin is to go against the doctrine of the church…

To God, sin is sin..A trangression of His law..Not the law of a church..

Eh Chris where in the Bible does it say that. In fact what it does say is the Church is the pinnacle and foundation of truth concerning the Christian faith. Catholics gave you the Bible!

If no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of private interpretation, then that means Scripture itself is not a matter of private interpretation because Scripture is divinely inspired and hence must be interpreted by a divine authority. The countless divisions among Protestantism prove the point. Neither Christ nor any of the apostles ever intended for Scripture to be our only authority. In fact, sola Scriptura was a concept unheard of until 1500 years after Christ’s ascension into heaven

Knowing what books belong in the Bible is necessary for salvation because if we didn’t know what books were inspired, we would mix up the inspired books with the heretical books. This means we would have Bible teaching both truth and error, and this would be detrimental to our salvation. So knowing the canon with certainty is essential, and the Bible doesn’t reveal it to us. The Church did. This is the principle of causality: an effect is never greater than its cause. If the canon is infallible, then the Church who determined it is also infallible.
