With so many horrible things going on in the world, why is GLUTTONY a deadly sin?
I mean, there are some truly horrendous actions being carried out right now. Everything from child rape to mental torture. Why is gluttony one of the 7 deadly sins, sins for which there can be no forgiveness?
Did God used to have anorexia or something?
(H-A-G-G-L-E-S) tHIS IS HOW I REMEMBER THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS. ( the sins are against yourself). hate, is too easily misdirected, and requires constant maintenance. I hate the food chain. Anger gnaws at your soul, and is is so misunderstood. It is better to stay angry than to get angry. at least you know what you are angry about, if you stay angry. Greed, is selfishness (selfishness is not a negative) Too much is too much selfishness is the means by which we moderate our natural Instinct to be greedy. Gluttony, is simply the opposite of the ideology, "MODERATION IN ALL THINGS". Gluttony can kill you inside of one year, or less. If you don’t believe, just start acting out the excesses of every thought you have. No ? i thought not, "moderation in all things". Lust. is the one thing which nature will bring, whether you moderate or not. I use one thought for the, i look at the female of the species as (WTF). Envy is not jealousy. it is the precursor to jealousy, and then covetousness. Envy without jealousy and/or covetousness, is actually a compliment to the possessor of that which is being envied. For instance, you may envy my knowledge of (HAGGLES)? That is a compliment. SLOTH is simply the lack of a desire to move. it is so named after the ‘SLOTH which sleeps 70 percent of it’s life away. moves slowly, and seems to be such sad (lethargic) creature sadness from inactivity, is an effect, the cause is called lethargy, this lives three doors away from suicide. the next two doors are cynicism, apathy, and then suicide. The first door Of these five is a positive called OPTIMISM, 9a very misunderstood word. Sloth will carry you all the way through suicide, if you are not in a controllable, balance in all the seven deadly sins. The term sins here refers to the fact you are sinning against yourself. SIN IS AN EVIL ENACTED.
I practice moderation in all things including the seven deadlies. (I AM NOT A RELIGIOUS PERSON).. I hate the food chain, i stay angry at paranoia all the time, i practice an increased selfishness, (selfishness=10% or starvation percentage). mY INCREASE IS TO 20% and this works well. it is balance with culture and nature. I am gluttonous on the rare occasion, on purpose, for the simple relief of abandon. However i prepare for this occasion in advance. This usually occurs on a wild weekend to some exotic location. Lust is a constant companion, and i constantly have to struggle to keep it under control. this is a vicious cycle worth having. Envy is like window shopping. I love it, and do it well. sloth, is a natural defense against over acceleration. I imagine myself a race horse, with a mule tied to it’s tail. The race horse, keeps me active, and the mule, prevents me from over-revving. (getting carried away by haggles) .

They just made everything that people like to do a sin. The whole idea behind the 7 deadly sins was to make people miserable in order to repent for their sins.

Gluttony = Selfishness. In being a glutton, you deny food to those in desperate need of it… take the famine in portions of Africa for instance. Gluttony on the part of those with the money to get what little food is there denies many more the chance to eat… threatening their lives, even.
That’s my thought, anyhow.

How does the Christian congregation view gluttony?
God’s Word condemns both drunkenness and gluttony as behavior that is incompatible with serving God. Therefore, the Christian congregation regards a confirmed glutton in the same manner as it views a habitual drunkard. Neither a drunkard nor a glutton can be part of the Christian congregation.
Proverbs 23:20, 21 states: “Do not come to be among heavy drinkers of wine, among those who are gluttonous eaters of flesh. For a drunkard and a glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe one with mere rags.” At Deuteronomy 21:20, we read about a “stubborn and rebellious” individual, who deserved to be put to death under the Mosaic Law. According to this verse, two characteristics of that rebellious and unrepentant individual were that he was “a glutton and a drunkard.” Clearly, in ancient Israel, gluttony was viewed as an unacceptable practice for those who desired to serve God.
What, though, constitutes a glutton, and what do the Christian Greek Scriptures say about this topic? A glutton is defined as “one given habitually to greedy and voracious eating and drinking.” Thus, for one thing, gluttony is a form of greed, and God’s Word tells us that “greedy persons” are the sort of people who will not inherit God’s Kingdom. (1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; Philippians 3:18, 19; 1 Peter 4:3) In addition, when the apostle Paul warned Christians against practicing “the works of the flesh,” he mentioned “drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these.” (Galatians 5:19-21) Overeating often accompanies drunken bouts and revelries. Moreover, gluttony certainly is included in Paul’s expression “and things like these.” As with the other “works of the flesh,” a Christian who is widely known for his gluttony and who stubbornly refuses to change his greedy behavior ought to be removed from the congregation.—1 Corinthians 5:11, 13.
Although God’s Word places a drunkard on the same level as a glutton, the former is much easier to identify than the latter. The signs of drunkenness are usually quite visible. However, determining the point at which an individual becomes a confirmed glutton is much harder because it cannot be determined simply by outward appearance. Therefore, handling situations in this area of concern requires great care and discernment on the part of the elders in the congregation.
For example, obesity may be a sign of gluttony, but that is not always the case. One’s being overweight may be the result of an ailment. Hereditary factors may also contribute to obesity. We should also keep in mind that obesity is a physical condition, while gluttony is a mental attitude. Obesity is defined as “a condition characterized by excessive bodily fat,” whereas gluttony is “greedy or excessive indulgence.” Thus, gluttony is not determined by someone’s size but by his attitude toward food. A person may be of normal size or may even be thin and yet be a glutton. Furthermore, what is viewed as the ideal weight or shape varies considerably from place to place.
What are signs of gluttony? A glutton routinely shows a lack of restraint, even gorging himself on food to the point of feeling very uncomfortable or becoming sick. His lack of self-control indicates that he has no real concern about the reproach he brings upon Jehovah and the good reputation of His people. (1 Corinthians 10:31) On the other hand, a person who overeats on a few occasions would not automatically be viewed as a “greedy person.” (Ephesians 5:5) Nevertheless, in the spirit of Galatians 6:1, such a Christian might need help. Paul states: “Brothers, even though a man takes some false step before he is aware of it, you who have spiritual qualifications try to readjust such a man in a spirit of mildness.”
Why is the Bible’s counsel to avoid excessive eating especially important today? Because, particularly regarding our day, Jesus warned: “Pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare.” (Luke 21:34, 35) Avoiding overindulgence in food is one important way to shun a spiritually damaging life-style.
Moderation is a Christian virtue. (1 Timothy 3:2, 11) Therefore, Jehovah will surely help all those who earnestly seek to apply the Bible’s counsel on moderate eating and drinking habits.—Hebrews 4:16.

I’m not sure what your source is, but the only sin that cannot be forgiven (according to the bible) is the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
Gluttony is deadly, because it is deadly. In a purely physical sense, it will kill your body over time. Any sin that is forsaken can be forgiven, but some of the effects of that sin may linger for a while.
The core message of Jesus’s sermon on the mount has to do with the condition of the human heart. Even if you are not committing attrocities, if your heart is filled with lust, anger, envy, etc., then it still leads to the same spiritual separation from God. Jesus Christ bridges that separation through the cross and offers His Holy Spirit to help us live by faith and change our lives from the inside out, instead of the outside in.

First off theres no such thing as a sin being unforgiveable, that is a man made statement, not biblical as is the term "7 deadly sins". To blaspheme the Holy Spirit is the only unforgivable sin according to the Bible which means its the only unforgivaable sin according to God. And Hes the one that matters right?
Regardless it could still be a deadly sin for it can kill you physically by the obvious over eating and obsesity. But gluttony can also refer to greed and in fact I believe this is the point of it. Being greedy is very sinful because you surely aren’t being your brothers keeper but instead selfish. Its not a Godly attribute, no good works can result from greed. We are to be a example of Christ’s love to others. If those who knew one was a christian and saw how greedy and selfish this christian is it could keep others from wanting to know more about God and his love, in fact put a ":stumbling block’" in the way of them coming to know Christ which Jesus said is worse than hanging a mill stone around your neck and being tossed in the sea.
