How could you write a sonnet on Pride of the seven deadly sins?

I have to write a sonnet on one of the seven deadly sins for lit, and I chose pride. I don’t even know where to begin. Can someone please help? Lol
@Billy Smith…Those are easy and I would do it if I could, but my teacher is making us do either an Ode or a Sonnet.

My friend Billy is a good Haiku Master. But if a sonnet you need, here’s one for you:

Pride

One deadly sin of which the angels fell,
That gnaws at hearts that see a better fool,
Might your soul, to some waiting demon sell,
And vanity of spirit is his tool:
Hell awaits at many an envious eye,
And mind, that dreams, of making self supreme,
Unwary that therein, the great chasm lie,
In wants and wiles pursued to the extreme:
The pure of hearts, do well to shun the call,
That wicked spirits make on every wait,
That oft than not, has caused the baneful fall,
Of angels, right before the Heaven’s gate:
……It’s pride that drives the boastful to excel,
……And cause his soul to fiery depths propel.

Pride
Lust
Wraith
Sloth
Lies
Envy
Gluttony

Seven lights should oppose these to equalize a balance in this world that correct large shadows in history such as, World War 1 and 2. Pure Hearts have to be made of various lights that can be different and I don’t have one word for many qualities of light. The balance of light and dark in man is important to keeping society on a steady path. Too much of one Light or Darkness can corrupt in either extreme.

your starting point is wrong maybe?
the 7 deadly sins are not biblical but sin is biblical.
So you are catching fish out of a barrow.

Im doing a project with symbols and my theme is the seven deadly sins. What things remind you of them ( Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth, Envy, and Pride)

Lust- symbols of sex, slutty Dresses (excuse my language)

Greed- Money, Billionares, immature Children

Gluttony- Ones who do not share, Obesse(fat) people (sometimes)

Anger- Stock Markets, Jails

Sloth-Sleeping people, Turtles

Envy- Little Children, Vines

Pride- Winning Teams, Satan, Lions

How do the other 6 deadly sins root from pride?

Pride is said to be the root of all evil. How do other 6 deadly sins, envy, anger, lechery, sloth, greed, and gluttony, derive from pride. Whoever can list each sin relating to pride will get 10 points.

Pride drives a man to do anything.

He can be lecherous and be proud of it….

and he can be a sloth ( yes, being lazy is a prideful thing)…

His greed can make him proud.

And he can over fill his money bin with greed, being gluttonous and be proud of it.

His envy of the neighbors money, will make him un proud to be who he is and will lead to stealing from his neighbor, or from someone else, so that he can then be proud of what he owns.

And what his neighbor has, can also anger him, because he has pride and cannot accept his neighbor having more then what he has.

How would someone break the 7 deadly sins?

A friend and i are going to be in london on a 24 hour Challenge to break the 7 deadly sins to an extreme. we will be under the influence of alcohol from 9am until 9am the next day when Ministry of sound (the last place we are visiting) closes and we finnish our Challenge. how can we break the seven deadly sins? what do we have to do in modern terms?

(yes im aware the drinking will probably kill us, please stay on topic)

Sounds like fun :p

1. Lust – That one is the easiest, just have sex with somebody

2. Greed – Try stealing something maybe? That would also take care of Envy.

3. Gluttony – See if you can’t order and eat a full menu from a set of fast food restaurants? (McD, KFC, Dominos/Pizza Hut, Burger King etc..)

4. Pride – Bang out the first person to insult/belittle you. That also works with wrath. If no-one does try to belittle you, try acting like a dickhead.

5. Wrath – As mentioned above. It could also just be to take revenge on someone somehow, but I see that you’re from Australia and going to London, that might be a difficult thing to accomplish.

6. Sloth – This one is actually a bit boring to break, just do nothing :/

7. Envy – The stealing would work for this, or if you break the Lust sin, try doing it with someone’s girlfriend.

We know, medically, that only a very, very small percentage of obese people have a glandular disorder. Shouldn’t the church start some kind of "let’s stop committing deadly sins" fitness movement or something?

Yes, and no. While examples can be found of Dr.s betraying their oaths, most doctors stay within their profession. Although no examples of things "called" the seven deadly sins had been found, the public didn’t embrace them. Although, by making them into dwarfs, it seemed to sooth the audiences trouble mind.

What makes them deadly? Why did God choose these sins to be deadly?

They are gluttony, wrath, sloth, pride, greed, lust, and envy.
Why did God choose these things to be sins period?
Sloth is a sin but the devil never sleeps, isn’t not being slothful allowing for the devil to take hold?

They poison your soul. Only true repentance and God’s mercy are the remedy. God didn’t "choose" these to be the worst sins so much as point out which *are* the worst ruiners of men’s souls.

Okay, I’m writing a story, but I’m a little stuck. I want my characters to seek out gems that go with the seven cardinal virtues. They are designed to fight the seven deadly sins. Humility goes against pride, chastity against lust, kindness against envy, patience against anger, dliligence against sloth, temperance agianst gluttony, and charity against greed. Help!

I’m researching the 7 deadly sins for a book I’m writing. I know what they are but I need a brief definition of Luxuria(Lust) , Gula (Gluttony), Superbia (Pride), Invidia (Envy), Avaritia (Greed), Acedia (Sloth), and Ira (Wrath). No scripts from the bible please! This is all for unreligious reasons.

lust – sexual lust that is not contained to marriage, promiscuity; can also be a lust for power, wanting to control others and have dominance over them

pride – believing you are better than others, that you can never be wrong, or God does not exist and you do not have to submit to his authority

gluttony – over indulgence in food or drink; can also be over-indulgence in materialism

envy – wanting what others have, being angry if you don’t, will lead you to steal, lie, and cheat to get what others have that you want

greed – wanting all the money or resources for yourself, not wanting to share with others, over indulgence in materialism and recreation so you covet money and are willing to oppress and cause suffering to others to get it and hoarde it

sloth – laziness, unwillingness to work for what you earn or to work for God’s cause, can lead you to oppress others to build your wealth off their work

wrath – mis-use of anger, failure to contain expression of the anger emotion within appropriate limits
